Mosman Council is currently seeking feedback on the following proposals:
Reduce speed limit on Military Rd (Spit Junction to The Buena) and The Esplanade to 40km.
Add another raised pedestrian crossing on Military Rd near Gouldsbury St (Approx. 100m towards Spit Junction from Woolies Metro) for the purposes of traffic calming.
NSW Govt requires that a traffic calming measure be installed on Military Rd to qualify for a speed limit reduction.
Mosman Council is proposing that a raised pedestrian crossing be used for this purpose.
Clr. Simon Menzies supports the speed limit reductions but supports the use of a cobblestone road surface treatment instead of a raised pedestrian crossing for the purposes of traffic calming.
A raised pedestrian crossing would have the following negative impacts:
Removal of 6 high demand parking spaces on Military Rd.
Worsen traffic congestion on Military Rd.
Create difficulties exiting Gouldsbury St onto Military Rd.
Unnecessary, as the proposed location of an extra raised pedestrian crossing is only 80m from the existing raised pedestrian crossing outside Bed Bath N Table.
Using an alternate traffic calming measure, cobblestone road treatment (10m. section), would not have any of these negative impacts.
Mosman needs more parking at the shops NOT less.
